Looking poised to win w1th ease,
Anzhi faced a less-than-stellar Liverpool side manned by young and
inexperienced players. Lacina Traore was the Russian side’s tower of hope as
the tall forward scored the winner shortly before half time.
Hopes for Liverpool to equalize did
not push through, as the English squad failed to inflict dangerous threats
against an expensively built Anzhi side. The presence of experienced players
Jonjo Shelvey and Joe Cole did not impose much impact on the game.
