The best in the world are again going to fight it out at the Alstom Open de France. One of the toughest and the most deserving players in the tournament is Lee Westwood.
The 39-year-old is looking for another win on the European soil. Now, he is ready to go against the best in the world at one of the toughest courses of the European Tour, the Le Golf National.
Westwood bagged his 22nd European Tour victory in the Nordea Masters. The event took place in Sweden, one month ago, and Westwood is back again with same determination to win the title, this time in France.
The Englishman has a quiet remarkable record at the Alstom Open de France. Till now he has made nine appearances and out of these nine appearances, he finished in the top-ten four times. The golf course seems to be very lucky for him.
The closest he has ever been to winning the title was at Le Golf National in 2009. In that match, he lost to Germany’s Martin Kaymer in a play-off.
Westwood will be joined by Kaymer and four others (Justin Rose, Graeme McDowell, Swede Peter Hanson and Spaniard Gonzalo Fernandez-CastaƱo) for the French Open.
Lee Westwood is one of the best golfers in the world. Over the years he has proved himself to be one of the best on the course.
Westwood stayed at the number one spot for 22 weeks. Then, it was time for someone else to claim the rank of the world’s number one. Currently, Westwood is at number 3 in the world ranking.
Till now Westwood has been very consistent about his game. He has delivered every time and has never disappointed his fans.
He has a bit of bad luck in the majors, as he has not won any major till now. The closest he got was in the year 2010, when he finished second in two major championships.
Westwood finished 2nd in the year 2010, in both Masters Tournament and The Open Championship.
In the years 2008 and 2011, he finished 3rd in The U.S Open and he finished tied 3rd in the year 2009 at the PGA Championship.
The analysts are certain that Westwood still has a long way to go. He can still win a few more titles and in any tournament, he is not to be taken lightly. He is always a strong contender for any title.
Keeping all the facts in mind, one cannot ignore the performance of Westwood and he has been very close on numerous events. He might have been unlucky previously, nonetheless he could still win the Alstom Open de France.
Who is going to be the Champion this year? Who is going to emerge as the best? Till now nothing for sure can be said. One can only wait till the French Open starts.
