The Championship is a 72-hole stroke play team event with each team comprising of two players. The first and third days are four-ball (best ball) play and the second and final days are foursomes play. A total of 28 teams, each one of different nationality, will compete in the 2011 Omega Mission Hills World Cup.
Eligibility:
The Official World Golf Rankings as at July 18, 2011 will determine the 18 leading nations that qualify automatically for the Omega Mission Hills World Cup.
The host country (China) receives an automatic qualification.
Players representing each country
The leading 18 available players, each native-born citizens* of different countries from the World Ranking will have until Thursday 28 July 2011 to commit to playing in the Omega Mission Hills World Cup. The 18 nations that qualify automatically and their leading player are therefore confirmed on 18 July.
The leading player may select any player of his choosing from the same country provided such player was ranked within the top 100 on the Official World Golf Ranking as of either July 18, 2011 or August 22, 2011. If there was no other player from that country within the top 100 on the OWGR on either of the dates, the exempt player’s partner shall be the next highest ranked available player from the same country outside of the Top 100 as of August 22, 2011. If there is no other available player from that country within the top 500 on the Official World Golf Ranking as at August 22, the exempt player may select a professional of his choosing from the same country, without regard to the chosen player’s World Ranking. The deadline for the leading player to select his partner is August 26, 2011.
* In certain circumstances a player may not have actually been born in the country with which he is clearly associated. In such circumstances the determinations will be handled by the Federation on a case-by-case basis.
The Host country qualify automatically for the World Cup and the 28 team field is completed by the nine countries who play their way into the Champsionship at the World Cup Qualifiers to be held in August 2011.
